Petrified Wood for Sale

Petrified Wood for Sale – Petrified wood is a fossil. It forms when the ancient wood was covered in sediment and protected from decay by the lack of oxygen and wood eating organisms. Over a period of years, decades or centuries groundwater that is rich in minerals flows through the sediment and into the wood. The original wood is inundated and replaced with calcite, pyrite, silica and other minerals. This mineral replacement is what causes the wood to become stone or petrified. As a result of the organic material not having been destroyed prior to fossilization the cell structures, wood and bark are often well preserved giving the appearance of the wood being fresh and new. Depending on the location and minerals present petrified wood can exhibit just about any colors of the rainbow! We carry and extensive assortment of petrified wood for sale from many locations around the world.  Check out our Fossil Plants!
