Comments: This is an AMAZING SPECIMEN!  We sold this specimen about 6 years ago, and recently had an opportunity to acquire it back for re-sale!! This is a tail from a Camarasaurus Grandis.  The holotype was discovered by O. C. Marsh in 1877 from Como Bluff, Wyoming.  It was initially named “Morosaurus grandis”  It was identified only a couple Caudal (Tail) Vertebrae.. specifically by the 11th Caudal Vertebrae which had a Chevron that was nearly the full length of the Vertebrae.  The holotype is in the Peabody Yale Museum.  Camarasaurus Grandis is easily identifiable as most of the Chevrons are nearly the length of the Vertebrae, unlike the other 2 species of Camarasaurus which have much shorter Chevrons.  THIS specimen is nearly a complete tail!  All of the vertebrae and chevrons were found articulated and are from the same animal.  There are 38 Vertebrae present as well as 27 Chevrons.   There has been a tiny bit of crack repairs done to the vertebrae but all are real with no casts present.  Of the 27 Chevrons 6 were either missing or partially present so those were restored.  This may very well be one of the most complete Camarasaurus grandis tails you will ever see!  The bone quality is superb..  Jurassic dinosaur bones can be quite brittle, quite “punky” and heavily distorted due to tectonic pressures over the 140 million – 200 million years that they have laid buried deep in the Morrison Formation.  THESE bones are the exceptions.. look at the photos and you be the judge.  When this tail was laid out flat it measured approx. 14.5′ long..  As it sits, with the bit of twist and curve that we had put in the tail it measures approx. 13′ long in a straight line measurement on the stand.  The custom stand displays the tail perfectly.   It is mounted in such a way that it has a bit of up and down as well as a bit of side to side curves.   The stand comes apart in 4 sections that are custom fit to interlock with each other.  Every vertebrae  has its own cradle on the stand.. no other vertebra will fit into another’s spot.  Each vertebrae is numbered also.. it is very easy to assemble but due to the size and nature of the specimen, arrangements will need to be made to have it delivered and set up which is included in the “shipping cost”.  You can easily see in the photos how big this specimen is.. the 2nd Vertebrae and Chevron measure approx. 42″ long from top to bottom!!  It took my son and I approx. 1 hour to completely set this specimen up.  When fully assembled this specimen will set up against a wall and will sit approx. 2′ out from the wall.   The back side of the tail has been on display in full sun, and is faintly faded and a bit lighter than the other side of the tail.. If you are looking for an IMPRESSIVE Dinosaur Specimen for your home, office or gallery.. and can’t afford a complete dinosaur or a skull.. THIS is the specimen you will want to buy.  You won’t find another like it for sale anywhere!

SORRY.. DUE TO THE SIZE OF THE SPECIMEN WE CANNOT SHIP OVERSEAS… CANADA MAY BE CONSIDERED DEPENDING ON LOCATION.
